Target Riders: Beginner/Intermediate. Open to CMBC members, 16 years of age and older.
- Riders should be confident riding local singletrack trails.
Description: Join instructors Lorraine Blancher (http://lbbikes.com/), Dylan Sherrard (https://www.facebook.com/dylan.sherrard/) and Whitehorse’s very own Kate White for our popular Gravity Skills Camp! This weekend camp will revolve around refining fundamental mountain bike skills. Through professional and personal instruction, we’ll kick bad habits to the curb and replace them with a foundation of skills that will elevate your riding experience.
Riders will gain a confident understanding of riding posture, choosing smooth lines, and effective braking and cornering.
We provide a 6:1 rider-to-instructor ratio to ensure optimal feedback and instruction for participants. Participants will also have access to medium-resolution photos to savour the memories of this sweet weekend!
Outline of Weekend*:
Friday evening – Join us at Cadence Cycle for a meet and greet with your instructors!
We’ll get to know each other while identifying everyone’s goals for the weekend.
Bring your bike, as well be optimizing your set-up while creating a higher level of comfort and understanding with suspension settings, contact points, and controls.
BBQ and refreshments provided.
Saturday (full day) – We’ll spend the morning reviewing skills and maneuvers at the Mount MacIntyre stadium to ensure a solid foundation for riding. Riders can expect to gain a higher level of comfort in regards to fundamental motions and initiating actions on the trail.
In the afternoon, it will be time to hit the trails!
Participants provide their own transportation to the stadium in Whitehorse (parking either at Dog Parking Lot or the Canada Games Centre).
Sunday (full day) – We’ll take the skills we’ve honed on Saturday and apply them to the trails in Carcross! Participants will progress through various trail features to build their confidence toward advanced riding. Instructors will challenge riders with technical features while breaking down the mechanics of each step for successfully approaching and executing those features.
Lunch and shuttles provided.
Participants provide their own transportation to Carcross (we usually arrange carpools amongst participants).
*Tentative. Subject to change depending on trail conditions, weather, instructor risk assessments, or other factors.
Equipment: A well-maintained, purpose-built full-suspension mountain bike is required for this weekend. Full face helmets and body armour are strongly recommended. CMBC has a limited selection of shin pads and full face helmets that can be borrowed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
