JESSE WEYMAN

President

I’m Jesse and I’m the current president of CMBC. I fell in love with mountain biking at an early age. Growing up in downtown Toronto made trail options limited but a mix of urban riding and seeking out trails in city parks kindled my passion for mountain biking from an early age. The sense of freedom, adventure, and joy I get when riding is what keeps me stoked to ride.

When I moved to Whitehorse as a student in 2014 I purchased my first modern bike; a second hand Kona Honzo hardtail. This bike was my ticket to exploring the extensive trails around Whitehorse that summer and helped me fall in love with these lands I now call home. I still have that old Honzo but my main ride is a 2022 Rocky Mountain Element and I absolutely love it. My favourite trail in Whitehorse is The Dream. Being able to ride an alpine epic from my doorstep is truly a privilege. Kudos to the many volunteers who dedicated their efforts to this masterpiece.

When I’m not riding my bike I’m most likely out grooming the trails on Grey Mountain for non-motorized use, digging trail with volunteers at CMBC trail events, or skiing at Mount Sima. I’m stoked to take on the role of president with CMBC this year after 3 years of being a board member. The group of folks that keep this club operating are truly remarkable and their efforts are invaluable to growing mountain bike culture in the Whitehorse area. Say hi if you seem me on the trails and come check out one of our trail events this summer! It’s a great way to meet like minded people or even find a new riding buddy.

JEFFREY PIKE

Vice President

I dabbled in mountain biking growing up in Whitehorse, but really got started when going to post-secondary school in Vancouver. I bought a well used Brodie Fury from a classmate and never looked back. These days, my bikes include a YT Jeffsy, YT Izzo, Kona Big Honzo, Fatback Skookum, Salsa Mukluk, Salsa Fargo, Kona Humuhumu, and a Brodie Jojo Tandem. My favorite trails are Downtown Boogaloo (Whitehorse), Upper Wolverine (Carcross), Razorback (Burns Lake), and Sierra Madre (Todos Santos). Other than mountain biking, I am an avid bikepacker, backcountry skier, whitewater rafter/canoer/packrafter and hiker.

CAROLYN BLASETTI

Treasurer, Dirt/Snow Girls

I did some very basic riding in the olden days but in the foolishness of youth ended up doing road riding. I started getting back into mountain biking several years ago and haven’t stopped since moving to Whitehorse. I currently ride a Trek Fuel EX7, a Giant Yukon fat bike, and a Gardin (circa early ’90’s). For trails I enjoy in Whitehorse, the best bang for my buck is Quickie since I can access it right out my front door. Riding 24 Hours of Light – counterclockwise – is a gem. In the winter Bonneville Lakes is a great adventure. In the summer you can find me out and about with my family and our dog Poppy doing some fly-fishing, hiking, backpacking, camping, and paddling.

SASHA SYWULSKY

Secretary, Dirt/Snow Girls

I’ve been into mountain biking for over 25 years, it’s a great way to be outdoors and explore the beauty that the Yukon has to offer! Currently I ride a LIV Intrigue Advanced, and I also carry my love of biking onto the snow in the winter, and gravel/road sometimes too.

I ride a lot of different areas in Whitehorse, I started riding with Dirt Girls several years ago. This was a great way to explore new trails and meet other female riders. I continue to contribute to Dirt Girls as a Ride Leader and show off our amazing trail networks to other new riders.

When I’m not on my bike, I’m usually out camping or paddleboarding in the summer!

ANTHONY BIER

Trail Days, Trail Maintenance/Development

While I’ve been involved in fat bike trail grooming and a CMBC member for many years, I joined the CMBC board in 2023 to get more involved in trail maintenance and building. Having had some previous experience collaborating with CMBC on a short trail project, I wanted to have a bigger hand in trail development and fostering a trail work community. My love of mountain biking began in the early 1990s exploring the forest trails and roads near my childhood home in Southern Ontario. While I maintain a stable of bikes spanning a range of cycling disciplines, the bikes I ride most often are mountain bikes. Currently, my main trail bike is the original Privateer 141, but I also spend some time on a Kona Honzo ST. In winter I ride a Pole Taiga and a Rocky Mountain Blizzard Powerplay. I’m often trying some new or slightly odd set-up or part on my bikes. I also love vintage bikes and have spent way too much time collecting and trading retro bikes and parts. My favourite local trail is Gnarwall and I spend most of my time on Grey Mountain since it’s right out my front door.

Growing up in Northern Quebec, I spent a lot of time biking on the quad trails. Eventually, I moved to Montreal, where I had access to bigger hills and more challenging mountain bike trails—this is when my passion for mountain biking truly took off. In 2021, I made the move to Whitehorse, and I was immediately blown away by the incredible biking community and the variety of trails available. For me, mountain biking has become more than just a sport; it’s a fantastic way to meet new people and explore different landscapes.

I enjoy riding all types of trails, but some of my absolute favorites include Loam and Behold (Mount Sima), Upper Boogaloo (Grey Mountain), and 24 Hours of Light (Mount Mac). Unlike Jeff, I currently only own one bike: a Trek Fuel Ex 9.8. It’s by far the most versatile bike I’ve ever ridden. Beyond biking, I’m also passionate about backcountry skiing, hiking, camping, fishing, and hunting.

MEGAN HORNSETH

Director at Large

I joined the board in the fall of 2024, as I recognized the hard work of CMBC and wanted to give back to the community. I’m still getting to know the large role that CMBC plays, and I’m excited to help the organization grow.

I started mountain biking 5 years ago, not long after moving to the Yukon. A co-worker offered to take me out on some easy trails, so I borrowed a friend’s bike for the weekend, and promptly fell in love with the sport. Not long after, I found an old used bike and started exploring more trails. A couple of years ago I upgraded (to a bike that fit me much better!), took a clinic, and my riding enjoyment and experience took off!

I’m happiest outdoors – Hiking, biking, skiing, or walking my dog. Spending time in the forest is one of my favourite things!

Favourite trails: Can can, Calypso Canyon and Broken Truck
Favourite network: Mount Mac
Fat Bike: Giant Yukon I
Mountain Bike: Trek Ex Fuel 8

Sponsorship

I am proudly new to the Yukon, having moved from Squamish, BC, in April 2024. Despite trying to “mountain bike” in dog park trails near my house at age 16, I developed the obsession with mountain biking in Crested Butte, Colorado. Having called many places (mostly Pemberton and Squamish, BC) home throughout the years, I am so excited to get to know all of the trails in the area, but have to call Rock Lobster and The Dream my two favorite trails so far. Fat biking this winter was a very pleasant surprise for me, I found it quite lovely to get outside and ride in the snowy forest! I am grateful for the volunteer trail grooming, and being on the board is my way to give back and engage with my new community. When I’m not riding bikes, I am still working on making sourdough bread that isn’t an oversized hockey puck, helping people have babies at the hospital in the maternity department, and getting punished in the backcountry on my mountain sled.

MARTIN WELLMAN

Web & Tech

I moved to Whitehorse from Ottawa at the end of 2023. Before then I used to visit my twin sister and her family in the Yukon, who had moved here over a decade ago, and fell in love with the place. Moving here has been one of the best decisions of my life. Living close to Grey Mountain, I spend a lot of my time exploring the trails there. In winter I enjoy going up Rehab and down Downtown Boogaloo, while in the summer I love the challenge of The Dream and trying out the different trail networks in the area.

Because I spend my workday in front of a computer, I try to get out as much as I can once the day is done. Being outside and active is amazing for both your physical and mental health. Apart from biking, my favorite activity is downhill skiing. After moving to Whitehorse I also took up cross country skiing and ice fishing, and hope to get into back country skiing soon.

I currently ride a Trek Fuel Ex 8 Gen 6 and a Giant Yukon 1.

COLIN McCANN

Multitool

Colin is a multiool, which means he helps the board out wherever help is needed. When asked what kind of biking he enjoys most, his answer is “All kinds of biking are my favorite… Except unicycling and recumbent bikes.”
