EVENTS PLANNING & SPRING SOCIAL – YUKON BREWING APRIL 30, 2025
We had a great night of socializing and scheming with old and new CMBC members. Yukon Brewing kept us lubricated and Panago Pizza kept us satiated. Thank you for the support from both of these companies and to everyone who came out! We heard lots of ideas for events and activities plus even some club organizational ideas (like business cards at the local bike shops). We are reflecting on everything we heard and will be in touch through our socials when we’re ready to start looking for volunteers to take these tasks on. We look forward to more engagement sessions with Yukon Brewing and our membership in support of our cause.
DIRT GIRLS – FIRST RIDE MAY 27TH!
Calling all Dirt Girls (new and long time riders, young and old!) – our season starter ride is May 27 at Chadburn Lakes.
We welcome all women, non-binary and trans riders of all experience types on these rides. We do not police gender here and want to promote inclusion in mountain biking. If a female empowered space feels meaningful to you, you are welcome here.
Medicine Chest Dirt Girl rides are meant to be fun and supportive. They are a great way to meet other riders and learn local trails. A CMBC membership is required to attend these events – be sure to have your number handy for the rides. Also, don’t forget to bring your bike, a helmet, water, bear spray and a first aid kit.
We are active on the Dirt Girls Facebook Group to share fun trail routes you might like to try and so you can connect with other Dirt Girls!
Huge thanks to Medicine Chest for sponsoring Dirt Girls!
TRAIL NIGHTS (AND AFTERNOONS)!
Our first trail night is June 2nd – Ollie’s Trail on Grey Mountain. Check the website for more information on timing and meeting location.
Never been to a trail night? Here’s what you should know:
The majority of trail maintenance in Whitehorse is done by CMBC volunteers, the city does not have the capacity to do this work. Trail maintenance is essential for a vibrant mountain biking community and there are many opportunities for every age and ability to contribute. This only works with the mighty power of volunteers so come out to a Trail Day and meet (and sweat with) some new and old friends. Work as much as you can, and bring a friend! CMBC memberships are required for insurance purposes.
What to bring: Gloves, weather appropriate clothing and footwear, hat, personal water bottle, any personal bug juice, safety glasses, a good attitude and safe work practices. If you feel so inclined, steel toe boots and your own tools are handy too.
What to bring: Gloves, weather appropriate clothing, personal water bottle, dirty shoes, any personal bug juice or hat, safety glasses, a good attitude and safe work practices. If you feel so inclined, steel toes boots are handy too.
What to expect: Exercise those muscles you don’t use very often! Shovelling, chopping, dirt moving, lifts, getting dirty and sweaty. Snacks provided by CMBC.
What to know: Most of the time, we meet at a standard location and hike out to trail sections. If you are familiar with trail names and locations feel free to show up late or leave early – do what works for your schedule. If you are not familiar with trail names or don’t have Trail Forks, it’s best to show up at the rendezvous location. Stay as long as you can. Chain gangs and comradery are fun ways to spend an evening or afternoon.
Both CMBC and Yukon Brewing want to recognize the commitment of our volunteers by offering an incentive for trail builders this year, For anyone who comes to a SECOND trail night, you can visit Yukon Brewing and receive a beer at discount when you hand in your Medal of Trail Karma honor.
Our incentive program is ever growing. We have a tickle trunk of items from our sponsors that you can work towards for your trail building efforts. We are looking forward to meeting everyone out on the trail!
TRAIL NIGHT SPONSORS
We have reached out to some local businesses to find sponsors for each of our 10 trail nights this year. We are taking sponsorship donations to continue building our community networks. All of our trail nights that we have scheduled were quickly sponsored by very generous community donors. Challenger Geomatics, Baked Cafe, Kilrich Building Centres, Riverstone Dental and Wildstone are our Trail Night sponsors this year. There are even more businesses knocking down our doors to be a part of what we do. We will be showcasing our sponsors on each of our trail building events, including more information about them in our newsletters throughout the year. We are super thankful to these community-oriented companies for stepping up and supporting CMBC. We are looking forward to building on these relationships. Please take an opportunity to check out the websites of each of their websites so you can support local businesses who support CMBC.
If your company would like to sponsor a trail night, please reach out to [email protected]. We would be happy to talk options with you.
NEW CMBC SPONSORS!
We are happy to welcome several new and returning sponsors.
We are super happy to have Kilrich Building Centres back on in our sponsorship portfolio. Over the years they have provided us a huge discount on the equipment and tools we need to keep our trails in good condition. Visit Kilrich to show them your support for our community of mountain bikers. If you are lucky, you may just end up with a silky saw of your own from trail nights – from us gifting to you- not you stealing it! 🙂
Baked Cafe is the new official home for our sponsorship team
Our sponsorship team has struck a few deals with Baked Cafe on Main St and First Ave. Baked has offered to sponsor some trail nights, movie nights, engagement opportunities and discounts on their lovely eats and treats. We thank Tony at Baked Cafe for the unwavering support and opportunity to grow this relationship. Look for our trail night poster boards for information and enjoy a cozy atmosphere for your favorite next to home made snacks.
